However, Edelgard had quickly learned Hubert’s perceptiveness in these matters far exceeded her own. Studying of ancient cultures and past histories had been something she and Hubert had done extensively as part of their own perpetrations for their plans. Ruins and old monuments were not uncommon in Fodlan, a land with a history dating back over a thousand years. Some of them are even national landmarks, in fact,” Edelgard said. “How so? These ruins do not look too different from some of the abandoned keeps around the Empire. “How curious,” Hubert had noted when Edelgard brought both to her retainer’s attention as the group made their final approach, “While we were told by the Old Man to expect ruins, these other items have come curious implications about the Plateau, Lady Edelgard.” It was clear to Edelgard that people once lived here. Several abandoned stone ruins covered in moss, some of them quite large indeed, loomed nearby. Large metal crates, showing signs of rust and weathering, were scattered around the area, and she noticed stone tiles on the ground that could have once been a road that ran through the location. The sun was beginning to near the edge of the horizon when the group finally reached the large stony structure, sitting ominously on the sandy banks of a beautiful clear lake not too far from the large brick wall that marked the edge of the plateau.Ĭuriously, aside from the brick wall, Edelgard there were signs that this area had once been the site of civilisation. Thankfully, Edelgard’s fears that Dimitri would have gotten to Link before her were unfounded as the party reached the Shrine not long after. It was fortunate that Dimitri had been so busy talking about other matters that the Prince had not attempted to recruit the young amnesiac before Edelgard could get another chance to do so. The sting of this defeat was exasperated when Dimitri had then stuck up an amicable conversation with Link about the supposed ‘medicinal properties’ in the mushrooms they had found. Granted she suspected Dimitri had two important advantages in that Lorenz and Ferdinand had already gotten most of what they had wanted to say across, and that his own retainer Dedue was far more complaint than Hubert, but it did irk Edelgard that the Blue Lion had succeeded where she had failed. Much to Edelgard’s surprise, Dimitri had been far more effective in saving Link from Lorenz and Ferdinand than her own attempts. I have taken your suggestions into consideration, and will be implementing them in a scene AFTER the Shine. A shout out to Crosshair and his suggestions regarding how I could show Link’s confusion though. Unfortunately, that is going to have to wait until tomorrow. I am having a shockingly short amount of time to do any writing this weekend - I had hoped that I would be able to get inside the Shrine by now so that Link could show his problem solving skills AND show the first encounter with a Guardian Sentry.
